Summer Heat

It’s Summertime!

The perfect time to be spending more time out of doors, hiking, fishing, walking, running, water sports, etc.

Remember, however, that you protect yourself against the elements when you go out of doors, especially when it is hot outside.

Don’t forget that you need to remember the needs of your furry friend! We tend to forget them because they don’t whine and complain like people do.

Don’t take this as a sign that all is well!

Animals depend on us to be their caretakers. They can’t get themselves a drink of water, or make shade when none is available.

Here are a few tips to make SUMMER
a time of fun in the sun
for both you
AND
your best friend!

Make sure your pet is WELL hydrated at all times. This might mean carrying extra water on your hike, in your vehicle, or putting up a kiddie pool in your back yard so that their water bowl doesn’t run dry.
Your pet can suffer from sunburn, especially if they have a pink nose. Keep this area covered with sunscreen, or do not go out for an activity in direct sunlight. Wait until later. Make sure any sunscreen you use is safe to eat…yes, your pet will probably lick it off!
Taking Fido for a walk? Do me a favor, step out onto the sidewalk or street in your bare feet. If it’s too hot for your feet, it’s too hot for your dog’s pads. Either wait until the pavement has cooled off, or get a set of protective footwear for your dog.
